Our homes have always been our sanctuaries, our places of respite in a crazy, hectic world. We’ve enjoyed time with our family at home, hosted get togethers for friends and enjoyed summer time in our back yards. With the arrival of the pandemic, we also found that our house was suddenly more than a home. It also became our place of work, and the location of our kid’s classrooms too. Suddenly there wasn’t much breathing room in our home.
One of the big changes that came from the pandemic was an increased focus on the quality of our lives. Instead of just plodding through day by day, until some future retirement, people wanted to enjoy life more and truly start to live again. There was a lot of thought given to home improvements. We looked at how we could make our house an ever more alluring place for entertaining and enjoying life, and nurturing our being and soul. We wanted to live life well, and make sure we enjoyed it fully each and every day.
Bring Your Entertainment Space Outdoors
When your house is filled with parents working from home and kids going to school there all day, you quickly realize you don’t have much space for entertainment or relaxation. Fortunately, there’s a great solution that can bring back the magic of home dinner parties and enjoyable get-togethers.
If you build a new deck, you can create a beautiful outdoor space that is perfect for afternoon relaxation and fun family and entertainment time in the evenings. You’ll be able to choose between a beautiful composite or wood deck, and you could even look at adding an outdoor kitchen to your upgraded outdoor space.
Transform Your Master Bath Into a Spa Retreat
Whenever you’ve been really stressed, it’s tempting to think of taking the day off from work and treating yourself to a spa day. We could all use that level of self-care and pampering in today’s world. If you want to decrease your stress levels, consider converting your master bath into a spa-like retreat.
Upgrading to a Jacuzzi tub with relaxing hydro jets is a great first step. Adding a rain shower head and putting in new high-end tile in the shower would be another wonderful improvement. You can redo the lighting to have a softer feeling, and add a towel warmer and a white fluffy robe on the hook to complete the spa look.
Transform Your Kitchen Into a Gathering Place
There’s something about hearth and home that really calls to our soul and spirit. Perhaps it’s a remembrance of times gone by, when families gathered around the hearth as the cooking was done. It evokes such warm memories to think about doing that.
You can add a new kitchen island that can serve as a food prep space where several people can gather to prepare a beautiful meal. If you also put some seating along the island, you’ll find that family and friends naturally come together there whenever you host a gathering or prepare a wonderful feast.
